Pastor Williams preached an awesome sermon, entitled “Order in the Church” using Second Thessalonians 3:6-13 as the scriptural text. The sermon points were 1) Avoid idle busybodies. 2) Follow the right examples 3) Get a job and 4) Keep up the good work. The First Century Church was understandably anxious for the return of our Lord. Christian doctrine was just being written so; they were often confused. Paul sent Timothy to live and work with them and to serve and teach them. Paul remained concerned, so he wrote letters to encourage them to all pull in the same direction. The church is still most effective when everyone works in a decent, orderly way.
We paused to remember our Late Church Mother Deaconess Florine Smith and acknowledged the need for a successor. Sister Martha Owens (age 91) was honored for her long-time service. Her name was inscribed on the Tree of Life in the Ancestors Hall. Sister Ida Heard (age 90) was presented flowers and named Church Mother as she is the oldest active woman in the church. She continues to support the ministry especially youth events. We remembered the Late Deacons Ernie Davis and James Scott by adding their names to the Diaconate Memorial Plague.
We also paused to recognize our members who have served our country and defended our freedoms. We gave them a commemorative red, white and blue ribbon with a gold star to honor them for their service.
