So many clichés come out in December. “Jesus is the reason for the season” is one of them. Some years ago, the assistant pastor of a New Jersey church resigned his job because the church wanted him to work when Christmas Day fell on a Sunday. Even the preacher didn’t agree on the reason for the season. He thought some Sundays were made for humans. I wish I could truthfully say the preacher was unique, but he was not. Evidence of standing on either side of the ‘reason for the season’ question is what we choose to do in celebration of Christ’s birth. Giving and receiving are expected and tolerated. What would you offer as a birthday gift for the One Who has everything? A good gift idea is, give Him yourself. Based upon what I know, that’s all He really wants.
